Last year GCA received an elementary Christian school complete with students, teachers and a small campus in mid-year from one of our member churches. Our Executive Board believed that God was leading us to keep the school going, even though we had no experience in running an elementary school. It was a step of faith and a great deal of work by the GCA staff and the Anthem school team to pull off.
In January 2017, I met with school leadership to share that the present campus was simply not large enough to sustain a healthy elementary school. At its max it could hold 85 students. The church rooms were built for Sunday School classes. Some of the classrooms could hold only 9 students and the economics of a full-time teacher in a very small class was daunting. We began to pray that if God wanted us to continue this ministry for the families in Salinas, He would provide a different setting for the school. We got a very big answer from God very soon!
In May of 2017 Salinas Christian School inquired about our need for a new campus as they needed to sell their property. It was three times the size of our property and they had built a school building for 350 students. The GCA Executive Board once again stepped out in faith and approved this decision.
Local commercial brokers said there was no other property in the entire city that could be zoned for a private school. As it was, we were being offered a property with the zoning already in place. As of July 19 we own this new facility. There is an incredible amount of work going on right now to get the campus ready.
Would you please pray for Anthem Christian School, Principal Robin Young and the Anthem staff this Sunday in your church services on August 6th? Pray that God will bless them with unity and love for one another and that all of the work that is going on will be done for God’s glory and His witness in the community.
Open House is August 14 and the first day of school is August 16.
