Yesterday was my birthday and it was grand. My three year old grandson, Zack, called to say, “Hi Papa. Happy Birthday Papa. I love you Papa.” Both Zack and I are happy participants in the gift of life.
I am a supporter of Life for everyone. I currently serve on the board of Informed Choices, a local center dedicated to helping women in unsupported pregnancies to choose life. We are seeing record numbers of women coming to the center, needing someone to encourage them to see that their baby deserves life. Choosing to have your baby when life circumstances are not perfect is now seen by peers, and even family, as the “wrong” thing to do. How the moral fabric in our country has frayed. BUT PRAISE GOD! I REPEAT, WE ARE SEEING RECORD NUMBERS OF WOMEN COMING TO THE CENTER, ANYWAY!
This Christmas, Informed Choices board members were given an ornament with names written all over it, like Eli, Sarah, Bethany and Thomas. There were 27 names in all. These were the children whose mothers had chosen life through the efforts of our center in 2017. 27 birthdays, 27 school pictures, 27 futures – all because believers worked together to provide this kind of ministry to women in our community.
This month, many Southern Baptist churches will observe a Sanctity of Life Sunday. When we speak to a crowd of women, it is likely that 25% to 35% have already had an abortion. Keep that in mind when you share God’s promise of forgiveness for all sin. I serve with board members who have experienced the pain of abortion and the deliverance God gave them to renounce and repent of that choice. Their courage to be honest about their journey is an inspiration to me, a reminder that God is never finished working out His redemption in the lives of hurting people. Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” John 10:10. The idea that abortion is a choice without immediate and eternal consequences is a lie. It hurts everyone involved and destroys life. It is the exact opposite of Jesus’ commitment to God-given life.
